Fitness Standing Committee

This committee is one of three standing committees of Recreation SA that advocates on behalf of the fitness sector in South Australia. This committee calls itself the Fitness Australia South Australia Division.

The Standing Committee comprises:

Role of the Committee

The purpose of this standing committee it to further Representation: To represent and promote the interests of the fitness industry to government, media, national bodies, other organisations and the general public.

Promotion

To promote increased participation in exercise and fitness related activities in South Australia.

Industry Liaison

To provide a forum for the exchange of information between fitness industry service providers with regards to research, new innovations, trends and industry benchmarks.

Accreditation

To establish and oversee an independent quality assurance accreditation program for organisations within the fitness industry.

Training

To initiate and sponsor training programs aimed at improving the management and business skills of fitness industry service providers.

Collective Bargaining

To assist fitness industry service providers (where appropriate) by way of a collective bargaining role with suppliers for goods and services.

Industry Representation Sub Committee

Members: Peter Conroy, Paul Stewart, Brendan Ozolins

  • To represent and promote the interests of the fitness industry to government, media, national bodies, other organisations and the general public.
  • To promote increased participation in exercise and fitness related activities in South Australia.
  • To increase sponsorship of fitness events and promotions in SA.
  • Develop membership package and brochure.

Industry Liaison & Operations Sub Committee

Members: Dale Martin, Darren Roberts, Allyson Minchington

  • To provide a forum for the exchange of information between fitness industry service providers with regards to research, new innovations, trends and industry benchmarks.
  • To oversee an independent quality assurance accreditation program (Code of Practice) for organisations within the fitness industry.
  • To assist fitness industry service providers (where appropriate) by way of a collective bargaining role with suppliers for goods and services.

Registration & Training Sub Committee

Members: Tricia LaBella, Marion Abbott, Annette Chatterton

  • To initiate and sponsor training programs aimed at improving the management and business skills of fitness industry service providers.
  • Develop strategies to increase the number of fitness professionals registered in SA.
  • Liaise with Service skills SA re training package reviews and development.
  • Provide input into TRAC committee, reviews and development of new training.
  • Lobby for increased training opportunities in SA.

  • Group Fitness Managers Forum meets monthly at Regency TAFE
    1. Provide a central point for issues to be discussed
    2. Provide opportunities to exchange information
    3. Discuss trends issues and opportunities
    4. Peer support
    5. To increase continuing education opportunities for GFM’s in SA
    6. Provide technical assistance and develop resources and materials for Fitness Instructors
    7. Disseminate information from FA
  • Personal Trainer Network meets quarterly.

    3. Discuss trends issues and opportunities
